Customer Review

Another bright and attractive book from Skoldo. This is jam-packed with a good range of listening tracks and reading activities offering great value for money. This is a useful resource to supplement any upper KS2 or KS3 French scheme. This is definitely a lot more challenging than most primary MFL resources and is very grammar-based so best suited to able pupils at top end of KS2 (who have studied French for a while - definitely far too difficult for beginners - See Skoldo Elementary, Book One and Book Two for younger pupils) or as valuable reinforcement of grammar rules at KS3. I would not personally use this book with a whole class but as extension work for more able learners. I am using this book with G&T pupils in Year 5 and also with pupils that I privately tutor in Year 7. In my experience so far pupils enjoy that it extends their vocabulary beyond the normal mundane primary MFL topics. I particularly like some of the reading passages which are excellent for cross-curricular work with Science. Pupils have enjoyed using the vocabulary quizzes. Overall I would recommend it for specialist teachers with able pupils in the 10-13 age range who are looking for grammar exercises and/or extended reading comprehensions of topical interest.

Excellent pronunciation

I have just finished the Easter Term teaching a year 6 class in our village school.
We went over the following questions and answers from page 28 in the Skoldo Book One and it was amazing how perfect their pronunciation was.
There was no 's' sound in the French word 'est'.
There was no 't' sound in the French word 'vert'.
There was no 's' sound in the French word 'ans'.
They pronounced 'Paris' without sounding the 's'.
The French word 'pull' had a clear 'u' sound which is always difficult for English speakers to pronounce.
De quelle couleur est la jupe?
La jupe est jaune.
De quelle couleur est la fraise?
La fraise est rouge.
De quelle couleur est le pull?
Le pull est vert.
Combien de chiens y a-t-il?
Il y en a cinq.
Combien de chemises y a-t-il?
Il y en a trois.
Combien de cochons y a-t-il?
Il y en a quatre.
Comment tu t'appelles?
Je m’appelle Luc.
Comment tu t'appelles?
Je m’appelle Anne.
Quel âge as-tu?
J’ai neuf ans.
Quel âge as-tu?
J’ai huit ans.
Où habites-tu?

Où habites-tu?
J’habite à Paris.
